Special Educational Needs and/ or Disabilities

The needs of all children are assessed on entry into school and appropriate programmes of work are devised by the teaching staff. Where the progress of any child is causing concern, the school's Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities Co-ordinator (Mrs Nicola Maunder) will advise. Where necessary, the advice of external practitioners such as medical staff, language specialists or Educational Psychologists is obtained.

At The Royal Kent School, children's individual needs are supported in a variety of ways to enable each child to fulfil their potential socially, emotionally, academically, physically and spiritually. Being a relatively small school means that our staff get to know children very well. Teachers and support staff are not only present in class, but also supervise in the playground. Every class has Learning Support Assistants who work with individuals and groups to further support children's learning.

The progress of all pupils is carefully monitored to ensure development. The school works closely within the framework of the Special Needs Code of Practice. The school's policy on Special Needs and an explanation of the Code is available to interested parents below.
