Welcome from the Headteacher

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website! Whether you are one of our existing pupils or parents, a prospective parent, a member of our community or even a member of our School's alumni, I am sure you will find something of interest.

If there is any other information you would like but cannot find, please contact the School Office.

The Royal Kent Church of England School is a happy and high achieving one form entry in the heart of Oxshott, Surrey. We have one class in each year group from Reception to Year 6, as well as a small Nursery. Our School has had a presence in the village, albeit in a different building, since 1820. We enjoyed celebrating our 200th anniversary in 2020!

I feel incredibly lucky to be part of this fantastic School, where all stakeholders work together for the benefit of our pupils.  A key feature in the success of RKS has always been its 'family' feel. As a small School we are well placed to provide a nurturing environment that enables every child to achieve success; pupils across the School know and support each other well, our staff team work hard to provide opportunities for children to thrive in their learning and play, and the high level of parental involvement supports us all.

We are an inclusive School for local children and we welcome families of different faiths and cultures. All children benefit from our strong links with our parish church St Andrew's, located further along Oakshade Road. Staff, pupils and parents are very proud of our school, its heritage and values. We aim to equip our pupils with the skills and attitude to continue learning throughout life and develop them, in partnership with parents and the community, into independent, caring and creative adults.

As a Church School we aim to provide children with a positive experience of Christian community which will influence and shape the rest of their lives, with warmth, care and a whole-hearted commitment to each other. In practice this means there are many smiles, laughter and celebrations! We explore with children the more profound questions of life and faith, providing many opportunities to pause and reflect.

We are lucky to be set in spacious grounds, with a large playing field at the back of our building, in addition to our playground, complete with trim trail and artificial sports arena at the front. Pupils benefit from the active involvement of parents in everyday School life as well as their brilliant fundraising efforts. Although the last few years have undoubtedly been tricky for fundraising and events, in an average academic year, over £20,000 is raised, much of which comes from our fabulous summer fete in June/ July. This amazing fundraising has contributed to some significant investments in improving our School's facilities over recent years; we have a new Front Entrance section to our building (2016), a brilliant and beautiful library (2017) and a complete redevelopment of our playground, including a Multi-Use Games Arena (2018). In the summer of 2019, we refurbished our School hall, which was well overdue - it still had the floor tiles and gym equipment from when our building was first used in the 1950s! In summer 2020 we completely refurbished the library area of the school in order to create space for our new Nursery. In the summer of 2022, our School's bathrooms were completely refurbished and our most recent project was developing an exciting outdoor learning area at the rear of the School - the 'Wonder Woodland'. There has been over half a million pounds of investment into our school's indoor and outdoor infrastructure since I joined the school.

Our children have many opportunities to access and interact with their local and national community, taking part in a range of events, such as charity fundraisers, music events and sporting activities with other local schools as part of the Effingham Learning Partnership and Esher District Sports Association.

I hope you enjoy finding out more about us!
